Eugene A. Potter, 71, died Sunday in his Des Plaines home. Born in Mt. Pleasant, Wis., Mr. Potter was a retired insurance agent for Prudential Insurance Co. at its former Irving Park district office in Niles. He served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War. “He and I were both signalmen on board the same ship in the Pacific during World War II,” said Jeff Jeffers, founder and chief executive officer of the National Association of USS LCS, a veterans group for those who served on small landing craft. “We were good friends on board ship and off.” Mr. Potter was formerly a longtime resident of Chicago. He is survived by five sons, Gene, Steven, James, Gerald and Paul; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Oehler Funeral Home, 555 Lee St., Des Plaines.
