Longtime Rep. William Goodling survived a term-limit group’s critical ads to win the Republican primary, and analysts said Wednesday that the organization’s campaign may even have drawn voters to him.
In the final weeks, Americans for Limited Terms sponsored $300,000 in radio and television ads against Goodling, chairman of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce and a congressman for 12 terms.
“It gave Goodling’s people a rallying point,” said Chris Nicholas, a consultant for one of Goodling’s three primary opponents. “He effectively used the outsider theme . . .”
In Arkansas, state Sen. Fay Boozman beat former Little Rock Mayor Tom Prince for the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate.
