John Patrick Sullivan Sr., a founding partner of the Markman, Donovan & Sullivan law firm and a former football player at the University of Notre Dame, died Tuesday at his home in Winnetka. He was 95. Mr. Sullivan was born in Muscatine, Iowa, and graduated from Notre Dame in 1924, after playing on the varsity football team with the Four Horsemen. He and his late wife, Elizabeth, met in Chicago, married in 1936 and moved to Winnetka in 1938, said their daughter, Elizabeth Hitt. He received his law degree from the University of Iowa and had helped establish the law firm by the early 1940s. Mr. Sullivan, a specialist in the field of municipal and corporate law, practiced for 62 years. An avid reader and golfer, Mr. Sullivan was a past member of Exmoor country club in Glencoe. His other memberships included the University Club of Chicago and the Mid-Day Club. In addition to his daughter, Mr. Sullivan is survived by a son, John P. Sullivan Jr.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Friday at 10 a.m. in Sts. Faith Hope & Charity Church, 191 Linden St., Winnetka. A funeral will follow at 11 a.m.
