After reading your article on CEOs as Principals for a Day (Page 1, May 13), I would like to congratulate Martin J. Koldyke for his continuing commitment to the Chicago Public School system and his current attempt to educate the “elite” of our city.
I believe, though, that Deborah Bricker, described in the story as a management consultant, will certainly be in for a big surprise. After admitting she has never been inside a Chicago public school, she said she doesn’t think the public schools will work for her daughter, so she sends her to private school. I find it amazing that a woman who runs a successful Michigan Avenue business would make such a decision based on such minimal research.
In fact, had Ms. Bricker been thorough in her investigation of schools available within an eight-block radius of where her daughter presently attends, she could easily have found several excellent public schools.
Good luck, Mr. Koldyke. There is much educating that still needs to be done!
