As I read the touching article on May 15 (Metro) regarding the orangutan birth, I felt conflicting emotions of joy and sadness.

The work the trainers have done with Sophia to teach her proper parenting skills to ensure procreation of a threatened species, particularly after she was written off as an unfit parent, is remarkable. Sophia should also be credited with her willingness to learn how to properly parent.

My sadness came when I remembered the children of Michael and Angeline Rogers from Chilton, Wis. Where was the proper parenting class when they went to school?
