“Highway robbery” (Voice, May 4) conveyed my feelings about the speed traps on Interstate Highway 57.
After more than 12 years without a speeding ticket, I was stopped three-fourths of a mile into Illinois by Cairo police, who had three radar cars working a small stretch of I-57. The speed limit drops from 70 m.p.h. in Missouri to 65 m.p.h. and reeks of an Old South speed trap with police waiting at the bottom of the bridge coming into Illinois.
A letter complaining about this to George Ryan, secretary of state, didn’t even elicit a reply. I see it’s still business as usual.
