Responding quickly to a complaint by a Woodstock Street resident, the Huntley Village Board ordered a halt, effective Monday, on construction of a commercial building on the east side of Illinois Highway 47.
Jeff Clark, of 10815 Woodstock St., lives directly behind the half-completed building. Because his property is several feet higher than the recently excavated level of the commercial building’s lot, it was to be protected with a retaining wall that has yet to be built by the new building’s developer.
“I have a cliff in my back yard,” Clark told the board. “My property is sliding down (onto the lot).” Clark said excavation is also endangering a tree on his property.
The board directed the building commissioner to issue a stop order on construction until the retaining wall is in place.
