It is interesting to note the city’s sudden concern about the prospect of losing key trade shows to other cities. It is particularly fascinating in light of the continued city drumbeat to close Meigs Field, despite both logic and a documented majority of public opinion.

Meigs Field is at its busiest during major trade shows, including many of those that are considering leaving Chicago. Meigs serves many of the leaders and decision-makers who determine where shows will be held. The city specifically requested that Friends of Meigs Field reschedule its upcoming public open house at Meigs from May 16 to June 13 to avoid conflicting with peak use during the restaurant equipment show.

Perhaps it’s time to use Meigs as a drawing card instead of threatening to close it.
