Lenore B. Murphy, 69, a Chicago public school teacher for 35 years, died Saturday at the home of her daughter, Anne Hurley, in Homewood. She “was very big on making learning fun,” said Mrs. Murphy’s oldest daughter, Maureen Brogan, and would often incorporate music and puppetry into her daily lessons. Before retiring in 1993, Mrs. Murphy taught at several schools, including Anthony, Burnham-Goldsmith and Gresham. A native of Chicago, Mrs. Murphy was raised in the South Shore neighborhood. She received degrees in elementary education and art from Chicago Teachers College in the late 1940s. Around that time she met Edward Murphy, to whom she was married from 1953 until his death in 1986. The family lived in Chicago Heights for 40 years and were active members of St. Agnes Catholic Church, where Mrs. Murphy was part of the parish council and served on the St. Agnes liturgy, environment and scripture-study committees. Other survivors include five sons, Dan, Edward, John, Kevin and Michael; and 16 grandchildren. A funeral mass will be said at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1515 Chicago Rd., Chicago Heights.
