The Schaumburg Transportation Committee voted 2-1 Tuesday night to recommend that the village continue funding a Pace bus route, which had been scheduled to reach the end of the line this month.
Trustees Pat Riley and Jack Sullivan voted to extend the contract with Pace to split the cost of operating Route 602 for another three to six months. Trustee Mary Ecker voted against the plan, saying only 24 people per day still rely on the service.
The village’s cost of extending the Pace contract through December would be about $9,300, according to transportation planner Rae Casale. Pace and the village would use the next six months to market Route 602 in hopes of increasing ridership, Casale said.
Riley said, “We’ve gone this far. I’d like to see if we can salvage it.”
Route 602 runs through southern Schaumburg to the village’s Metra station on the Milwaukee District West line. It stopped serving Hoffman Estates in February after that village refused to help fund the service.
