It is apparent over the years that many Chicagoans have had the wrong impression of the Chicago Public Schools system and perhaps justifiably so.

The recent Principal for the Day program that I was privileged to take part in will, I hope, change the attitude of many Chicagoans, just as my impression has been changed.

I cannot say enough about how well the elementary school I visited was operating and, in particular, how impressed I was with the special-education teachers. The image of our school system is one that deserves a change for the better, and I am sure that in the future it has the potential of being one of the best systems in the country. But it is crucial for the schools to obtain their resources from interested citizens and corporations and not to rely on the Board of Education for everything.
