Joseph Kozenczak, former police chief in Des Plaines and a Democratic candidate for sheriff in DuPage County, was ruled off the ballot after a hearing Monday before a county elections board.
Kozenczak of Bensenville had been slated by DuPage Democrats to oppose Republican Sheriff John Zaruba in the November election.
An objection was filed last month against Kozenczak’s candidacy, and a three-member elections board ruled orally that there were legal deficiencies in his nominating documents, said Robert Saar, executive director of the DuPage Election Commission.
Saar said among the issues considered board were questions about the validity of the committee that selected Kozenczak.
The elections panel is expected to give a written ruling June 17.
Kozenczak heads two private security firms, Investigations North America and International Countermeasures Inc., both based in Oak Brook.
He ran unsuccessfully as a Republican for the DuPage County Board.
Zaruba is seeking election to the office he now fills by appointment.
