Sidney B. Miller, a violinist who taught his craft for 42 years as a professor at the American Conservatory of Music, died Sunday at age 86 in his New Jersey home. Mr. Miller was born in Chicago in 1912 and earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the conservatory. While teaching his violin students, many of whom went on to successful careers, Mr. Miller continued his own performances, both solo and ensemble. In 1975, he moved to New Jersey, and he and his wife became members of Temple Beth Or in Bricktown. While in Chicago, he had been a member of Congregation B’nai Zion in East Rogers Park, and for 20 years he also taught confirmation class at Temple Menorah in West Rogers Park. Mr. Miller is survived by his wife of 49 years, Saralee; a son, Ben; two daughters, Ethel Lofquist and Deena Miller; and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in The Piser Chapel, 9200 Skokie Blvd., Skokie.
