Kathleen E. Green, 57, a longtime community volunteer whose work with senior citizens and disabled people was widely recognized, died of acute leukemia Monday in her Deerfield home. For 30 years, she was active in a variety of activities and organizations, including the American Red Cross, the Northeast Illinois Council of the Boy Scouts of America, Deerfield Citizens for Drug Awareness, the Deerfield Nurses Association and the Deerfield Senior Center. Mrs. Green was a recipient of the 1998 Volunteer of the Year award from the United Way of Lake County. She also received the Deerfield Human Relations Award in 1987. She was born in Chicago and was a graduate of Harper High School and the Illinois Masonic Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. Green was chairman of the Holy Cross Catholic Church’s program for senior citizens and chairman of the church’s special religious education program for people with developmental disabilities. Her publication, “Wise Use of Medication for Senior Citizens,” was distributed in the Deerfield area. She is survived by her husband, James; and a son, Kevin. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Kelley and Spalding Funeral Home, 1787 Deerfield Rd., Highland Park. A mass will be said at 10 a.m. Thursday in Holy Cross Church, 724 Elder Lane, Deerfield.
