Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Finish up your Saturday chores, slip on some light clothes, strap on some heavy shoes and head over to the fandango at the Old Town School of Folk Music. There Veracruz, Mexico’s renowned Mono Blanco (White Monkey) will strum out the melodies while dancing audience members pound out the rhythms with their feet. In case you think you don’t know the sound of the fandango, think of rustic harps and small guitars playing the opening bars of “La Bamba.” If you still can’t hear it, you’d better march over to the school (909 W. Armitage) at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, where in traditional fandango fashion, they’ll be serving fruit coolers (as well as a special peanut drink) and Veracruz-style monkfish empanadas to weary hoofers. And, who knows, if the dancing gets wild enough there might even be an appearance by the fabled white monkey, who is known to favor fabulous fandangos. Tickets $13-$16. Call 773-525-7793.
