Despite pleas from neighbors, the Crystal Lake City Council has refused to reconsider a resolution that gave preliminary approval to a new single-family housing development.
At its May 19 meeting, the council approved the request of Residential Development Group Inc. to build 166 residences on a 105-acre parcel at Huntley and Ackman Roads. The parcel contains 15 acres of wetlands.
Neighbors asked for reconsideration because they said the council’s decision violated the Crystal Lake subdivision ordinance, mandating that wetland areas must have preliminary engineering approval before a subdivision can be approved by the council.
But they said the Crystal Lake engineering department did not have sufficient information to approve the project.
Councilman Tom Hayden, who made the original motion to approve the plans, said he made it clear that only the blueprints were being approved and all engineering issues would have to be addressed.
