I note that Mayor Richard Daley is spearheading a drive to sue firearms manufacturers to prevent them from marketing their products in Chicago. Before he does this, he might consider suing auto manufacturers and distillers and brewers to enjoin them from causing drunk-driving deaths. Sound stupid? Yes, because it is, and so is the mayor’s plan. He forgets that it’s the individual driver, not the car or the Jack Daniels, that kills.
The mayor should worry about individual responsibility first. Only then should he consider objects and inane lawsuits.
