The City of Aurora on Wednesday won first place in the Governor’s Home Town Awards youth project category for Project Unity’s Back to School Fair program.
A volunteer effort supported by the city, it provided free school supplies to 4,000 students in the past two years. Project Unity was formed after the 1995 murder of Aurora Central Catholic High School basketball star Moshe Rogers.
“I would like to congratulate all the people who have participated in Project Unity’s Back to School Fair,” Mayor David Stover said. “Their efforts to better the community have brought statewide recognition to the city.”
