William Yrjanson, 72, of Palatine, a retired civil engineer for the American Concrete Pavement Association in Skokie, died Tuesday in Northwest Community Hospital, Arlington Heights. Mr. Yrjanson, who was born in Mahnomen, Minn., served in the Army infantry during World War II under Gen. George S. Patton Jr. in Europe and during the occupation in Germany after the war.He retired in 1990 from the American Concrete Pavement Association, a professional trade association. He served 20 years with the organization, formerly in Arlington Heights. “He was very professional, yet very personable,” said Debbie Howard, former secretary for Mr. Yrjanson. Survivors include his wife, Joyce; two daughters, Rebecca Lo Basco and Julie; and two brothers, Robert and Dick. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Olson Funeral Home, 6467 N. Northwest Highway, Chicago.
