Rev. Maynard Halvorson, whose passionate sermons consistently stressed the importance of a true relationship with Jesus, died Tuesday. Rev. Halvorson, 86, of Sandwich continued to preach until recently. He served at 20 churches, including two in Chicago–Ebenezer Lutheran Church from 1945 to 1948 and Zion Lutheran Church from 1964 to 1967. Survivors include his wife, Henrietta; a son, Richard; two daughters,Ruth M. LeDell and P. Janelle Burd; a sister, Dr. Veda B. Halvorson; and five grandchildren. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday in Larson-Gabel Funeral Home, 102 S. Johnson St., Newark, Ill. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in Fox Valley Lutheran Church in Norway, Ill.
