Carolyn Darnell, 47, a teacher and lawyer, died Thursday in Elmhurst Hospital. Mrs. Darnell received a master’s degree in remedial reading from Loyola University Chicago and a law degree from John Marshall Law School. Mrs. Darnell taught elementary and high school students and did volunteer law work at the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office. “She was very down to earth, not flashy,” said Mrs. Darnell’s mother, Mary Zienty. “She was a good person. She loved her family very much.” Besides her mother, Mrs. Darnell is survived by her husband, Richard; a daughter, Lisa; a son, Jon; her father, Jerome Zienty; and her brother, Jerome A. Zienty. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in The Oaks Funeral Home, 1201 Irving Park Rd., Itasca.
