A small but controversial Algonquin subdivision near the western shore of the Fox River may soon move forward–albeit slowly.

The village Planning and Zoning Commission is recommending that the Village Board approve final plans for a 16-home subdivision off Harrison Street north of Algonquin Road, with several conditions.

Because of the presence of underground springs and other unique geologic conditions on the 8-acre wooded property, developer Earl Jesperson must obtain village approval for each individual home before construction.

The village gave preliminary approval for the subdivision in 1995, raising the ire of residents living downhill of the site. Many were concerned that the project would cause ground water to rise and flood their properties.
