Howard Reich’s article on Lena Horne (“The Last Diva,” June 7) was quite impressive, as is his work generally.

A small sidelight on the popularity she generated. While stationed at Camp Shelton, Va., in 1944, one of the officers, who was white, as were most officer personnel, had placed an attractive photograph of Lena Horne on the wall near his bunk. It gave me considerable satisfaction.
