A recent annexation will add another school district to the list of those receiving land development fees from New Lenox as a result of a vote by the Village Board on Tuesday night.

The annexation approved early this year added land in Homer Township to the northwest corner of the village.

Because young people in the area attend Homer Township District 33-C schools, rather than those in New Lenox School District 122, Homer Township school officials asked the Village Board to include their district in the distribution of land exaction fees collected from developers.

Mayor John Nowakowski said the village wants to add the school district before development occurs in the northwest section.

The fees, which are based on land values, are collected from developers and distributed to the schools, as well as other taxing bodies, such as park districts, libraries and fire protection districts, to help offset the cost of serving new residents.
