Louis J. Hyde, 81, of Riverside, a former Cook County Circuit Court judge, died Friday in MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn. A former prosecutor and private practitioner, Mr. Hyde became a judge in 1957. He retired 10 years ago. Among Mr. Hyde’s assignments was the court’s domestic relations division. One of his most unusual cases came in 1985 when a man demanded that he be allowed to pay his wife’s $7,500 legal bills with 750,000 pennies he had delivered to the Daley Center. The judge signed an emergency order blocking the payment in pennies. Mr. Hyde was a World War II veteran. Survivors include his wife, Patricia; and a sister, Vivian Healy. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday in Ivins Funeral Home, 80 E. Burlington St., Riverside. Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mary’s Church, 126 Herrick Rd., Riverside.
