Ralph Albert Smith, 94, of Chicago, a retired civil engineer, died Thursday in Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago. He was a managing partner of Consoer Townsend and Associates in Chicago, where he worked as a civil engineer for 60 years until his retirement in 1984. A native of Wauwatosa, Wis., he was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin. Mr. Smith was a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II, serving in the South Pacific. He played the piano and clarinet. He is survived by his wife, Catherine; a daughter, Dawn; and a grandson.
