In the aftermath of the Great Dodger Sunday Night Massacre in which both Bill Russell and Fred Claire were savagely cashiered, there are those observers inclined to believe that Tom Lasorda played a prominent role in it. And they are wrong. It’s known he’s schmoozed for long hours with Michael Milken, a top adviser to Rupert Murdoch. But I’m sure that the two Fox executives, Peter Chernin and Chase Carey, who manipulate the puppet strings attached to the so-called Dodgers president, Bob Graziano, would have coolly ignored Lasorda’s alleged remonstrances and not made such a stunning decision had the team not fallen haplessly on its cleats.
