A developer who already has a project pending at a major Tinley Park intersection has unveiled another proposal for a site near the future convention center.

Architect Russell Lissuzzo, representing Gierczyk Development, received concept approval at last week’s Plan Commission meeting for rezoning necessary to build an office center, bank, fast-food restaurant and 10,000-square-foot commercial center at the northeast corner of 183rd Street and Harlem Avenue, across from land targeted for the hotel and meeting hall.

Lissuzzo also received concept approval for the rezoning needed to allow progress on The Junction, a commercial/office development at 175th Street and 80th Avenue that received preliminary approval several months ago.

When reviewing recent proposals, officials have stressed they are concerned with aesthetics at what they consider the “gateways” to the village off Interstate Highway 80–the exits at Harlem and LaGrange Road.

The Prairie-style office building would mimic that proposed at the Junction, Lissuzzo said.

Although Commissioner Larry Zielinski said he was concerned about the restaurant’s drive-through causing problems for residents of nearby townhomes, Lissuzzo said fencing will prevent headlights and noise from being obtrusive.
