From the perspective of a criminal defense attorney with 30-plus years in the criminal justice system, I do not agree with Glenn Poshard’s position on guns. Guns kill. But I cannot vote for George Ryan because he is pandering to the anti-crime sentiment with a dishonest, irrational program.
More severe penalties will have no effect in diminishing gun crime. They will only cost citizens millions more to incarcerate people who would not commit gun crimes if guns were not available.
Ryan is smart enough to know what he is doing. If he wants to protect citizens, let him develop a program to dry up the guns that flood our streets.
