I’m confused. In her June 17 Op-Ed column, Linda Chavez scornfully remarks that
“. . . marriage is not a private arrangement between two people but a social institution that exists to benefit the community. . . .”
I was under the impression Chavez was a right-wing Republican, yet here she seems to be echoing the communist principle that individuals exist only in order to benefit the collective.
It’s getting harder and harder to tell the right-wingers from the left-wingers. Both seem to be happy only when they’re dictating how other people should live their lives.
