Max J. Binns, 71, of St. Charles died Sunday in Delnor Community Hospital in Geneva. Born in Iowa, Mr. Binns was a manager of the plumbing and hardware departments at Buikema’s Ace Hardware in Wheaton, from where he retired in 1997. Mr. Binns was Navy gunner’s mate during World War II and served in the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. A private pilot, he was a captain in the Civil Air Patrol, flying with the Skyhaven Squadron at O’Hare International Airport. Survivors include his wife, Lena; a son, Terry; four stepdaughters, Karen Angel, Stephanie Spann, Debby Timar and Maureen Werner; a brother; 11 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in Norris-Walen Funeral Home, 132 Fremont St., West Chicago, followed by mass at 10 a.m. in St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 2900 E. Main St., St. Charles.
