Many thanks for Richard Christiansen’s splendid piece on the great Alice Faye (“In Old Hollywood, there was a star named Alice Faye,” June 7). You did this great star a great tribute.
You hit the bull’s-eye with your description of her quivering lower lip as she sang her ballads.
Although she sang in many movies, it’s a shame that we don’t have any mementos of her talent. I do not agree with Pauline Kael’s opinion of her acting. Probably not Academy Award caliber but head and shoulders over her replacement–Betty Grabel.
