A man whose knife attack in 1988 left his former girlfriend and three of her siblings dead was executed by injection Friday.
Leopoldo Narvaiz Jr., 30, was put to death just hours after Gov. George W. Bush spared the life of Death Row inmate and convicted serial killer Henry Lee Lucas, commuting his sentence to life after doubts about his guilt were raised. It was the first time the governor had commuted a death sentence.
Narvaiz was convicted of using butcher knives to hack to death the four victims — ranging in age from 11 to 19 — in San Antonio.
The victims were stabbed more than 100 times, causing some of the knife blades to snap inside their bodies.
Narvaiz was the 11th person executed in Texas this year and the third in as many weeks.
