It seems people will complain about anything, just to have something to complain about.
Letters by Kathy Knapp and Jeff Anderson (Voice, June 19) bear this out. Knapp found your Bulls headline, “The Joy of Six,” beneath your standards. It’s an obvious play on a very famous and respected book by Alex Comfort about a very normal and natural act.
Then Anderson thinks it’s irresponsible to see athletes like Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen puffing on victory cigars. Enough with the pious handwringing. Stop expecting athletes to dictate the course of people’s lives, either children or adults. They’re not guidance counselors, they’re entertainers. Anderson also put smoking and illegal drugs in the same sentence, which is a stretch.
Dennis Rodman has worn a dress to social functions in the past. Did that tell young males that it’s OK for them to wear dresses in public? Neither will Michael and Scottie’s cigar smoking send youngsters scurrying to America’s humidors.
