Let’s celebrate Independence Day–not the 4th of July. We don’t restrict describing Dec. 25 with the date–it’s Christmas. It’s not a Feb. 14 card, it’s a Valentine’s Day card. We don’t refer to the March 17 parade–it’s the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
Other holidays and celebrations are noted by their names, what they commemorate. Memorial Day, Labor Day, Easter, Veteran’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, Bastille Day. Why then, is expressing Independence Day almost universally referred to as the 4th of July? This is probably the most important day to celebrate the birth and greatness of our country.
Please, remember what the date is about. Reflect on it’s meaning. Take a short trip to Philadelphia if you need inspiration or read the Declaration and the Bill of Rights.
