Walter E. Stelter, 90, a longtime resident of Chicago’s Southwest Side and a former Sears, Roebuck and Co. employee, died Wednesday in Lexington Healthcare Center in Orland Park. Mr. Stelter thought himself lucky when he landed a shipping job at Sears during the Depression a day after he married in 1935. He retired from the company in 1969. During his retirement, the German native spent time volunteering at Golgotha Lutheran Church on the Southwest Side. He moved to Tinley Park in 1973. Survivors include his wife, Ruth; two sons, Don and Rich; a sister, Elizabeth Wigent; a brother, Karl; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Hirsch Memorial Chapel, 7151 W. 183rd St, Tinley Park. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Trinity Lutheran Church, 6850 W. 159th St., Tinley Park.
