James G. Paddock, 89, a retired classified advertising manager for the Tribune, died in his Chicago home Thursday. Mr. Paddock attended Hyde Park High School and the University of Chicago. He was an officer in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific theater during World War II. He worked for the Tribune from 1930 to 1975. He was a longtime resident of Palos Heights and a former planning commissioner for the town. “He was very interested in teaching his children things,” said Mr. Paddock’s daughter, Joan Steck. “He taught us about Morse code, the solar system and geology.” Paddock was married 62 years to his wife, Anne. Aside from his wife and daughter, Paddock is survived by his son, James, and nine grandchildren. Services will be private.
