Dr. Sol S. Strauss, 77, of Northbrook, a retired cardiologist and internist, died Friday in Glenbrook Hospital in Glenview. He retired in 1992 after 38 years with the Veterans Affairs medical system. A native of Chicago, he was a graduate of Marshall High School, the University of Illinois at Chicago and the University of Illinois Medical School. Before joining the VA West Side Medical Center in Chicago, Dr. Strauss operated a private medical practice in Oak Park for nine years until he gave it up because of rheumatoid arthritis. He was a member of Northwest Suburban Jewish Congregation. “He didn’t have any hobbies–it was strictly medicine or the family,” said his wife of 49 years, Aileen. He also is survived by a daughter, Beth Groebe; a son, Alan; a sister, Gertrude Landerman; and three grandchildren. Services will be held at noon Monday in Weinstein Family Services Wilmette Chapel, 111 Skokie Blvd., Wilmette.
