I was glad to see the storms that rolled through the Chicago area the night of July 3. As a result of them, the imbeciles with their fireworks were forced to refrain and our neighborhood was spared the annual simulation of World War II.

Speaking of fireworks, your article “Police explode fireworks dreams of visitors to Indiana” (Page 1, July 3) really struck a nerve with me. In it, fireworks shop owner Reva Victor whined and moaned that law enforcement was hurting her business. What a pity! I’m really tired of business owners who engage in illegal or unethical activities trying to wave the banner of “free enterprise,” “Big Brother” and “harassment.”

Three cheers for the Illinois State Police, which is trying to enforce a law that protects us all, even those too stupid to realize it.
