The School District 41 Board has approved more than $900,000 to install a computer network in Glen Ellyn schools.

By next year, the system will allow for every classroom to have one multimedia teaching station and additional computers for children.

“Our vision is to add at least four computers for children in every classroom,” said Beth Wiegmann, technology coordinator. “They’ll be able to run as separate units or as a system.”

The new network includes equipment that routes the system and six fiber-optic cables to connect five elementary schools and Hadley Junior High School. Cable links to two local cable television companies are included. The completed system will eventually allow home access.

The installation is taking place as part of a major school renovation program.
