A second man suspected in the robbery of a Mt. Prospect bank was arrested Wednesday and charged in a federal complaint, the FBI said.
John Michael Freimuth, 23, allegedly acted as the getaway driver in the May 13 heist at the LaSalle Bank, 1080 S. Elmhurst Rd., authorities said. He was charged with aiding and abetting in a bank robbery.
Another man, Dennis Stebbins, 24, allegedly admitted to that robbery and seven others after he was arrested and charged with holding up a First Chicago branch in Algonquin late last month, authorities said.
Randall Samborn, a spokesman for the U.S. attorney’s office in Chicago, said Freimuth is suspected of taking part in two of the other heists connected to Stebbins.
Samborn said Freimuth will remain in federal custody pending a Friday hearing in federal court.
