Joliet could have a new garbage hauler by next month, after talks with firms bidding for the three-year contract.
The city’s agreement with C & A Disposal of Joliet expires at the end of the year. The city could award a new contract in August or September, said City Manager John Mezera.
Last week, officials met with potential bidders to discuss contract specifications. Representatives of eight garbage haulers attended that session.
Opening of bids will be Aug. 9, said Councilman Mike Turk, chairman of the City Council’s Public Service Committee. The Finance Committee will review the bids Aug. 14, Turk said.
Residents pay $6.49 per unit per month. Mezera said officials have not calculated what new service might cost.
