DuPont falls: DuPont Co. shares fell more than 8 percent after the company said it expects second-quarter earnings to be 10 percent to 15 percent lower than the 99 cents per share it earned in the comparable period last year. In late-morning trading on the New York Stock Exchange, DuPont was off $6.37 at $70.75 a share, pulling down the Dow Jones industrial average. DuPont blamed the lowered earnings expectations on problems with its herbicide products business, prompted by the Asian financial crisis and weather and pricing pressures in North America. Lower oil prices, lower demand in the textile industry and the General Motors strike also contributed to the decline, DuPont said.
