One would have hoped and even expected that in this year of all years, the Portadown march in Northern Ireland would not even have been contemplated much less have gone down the old Catholic Garvaghy road.
As always, members of the Orange Order, in their bowlers and huge banners, have only one purpose. It is not to worship! If that were true, then they would return by the way that they came. NO, their purpose is to triumph over the Catholics and show who is the boss over something that happened more than 300 years ago.
Reconciliation? Can one imagine Americans celebrating the military victory at Yorktown over our British cousins on July 4, instead of our independence? Or more appallingly unbearable, by trekking through Atlanta in Yankee uniforms to celebrate Sherman’s desecration of the South?
Let us hope that others use better judgment.
