John J. Cronin, 85, formally of Hegewisch, a retired lieutenant with the Chicago Police Department, died Friday in Wingate At Ulster rehabilitative nursing facility in Highland, N.Y. Mr. Cronin, who was a World War II veteran, worked in the 4th District of the Chicago Police Department for 32 years before retiring in 1975. He is survived by two daughters, Catherine Rodrigues and Mary E. Rodell; a son, Peter; a sister, Catherine Engel; a half-sister, Mary Kevin; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Sadowski Funeral Home, 13300 S. Houston Ave., Chicago. Mass will be said at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Columba Catholic Church, 13323 S. Green Bay Ave.
