In response to village growth, Fox Lake Fire Chief Stu Hoehne told the Village Board on Monday night that he will reopen Fire Department Station 1 on McKinley Street.
The station, which will reopen Aug. 3, was closed about five years ago because the department did not have enough people to staff two stations and Hoehne wanted to consolidate the firefighters and paramedics into one station. The department was housed at Station 2 on Washington Street because it is newer and has sleeping quarters.
After Station 1 reopens, one full-time firefighter and one volunteer will be on duty from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, Hoehne said. Hoehne also said he hopes to break ground in May on a new four-bay fire station on State Park Road.
“We’ve had a lot of growth in that area, and we also have Leisure Village (retirement community) over there,” Hoehne said.
