The Tribune continues to persist in trying to convince Arlington Heights that it knows what is best for our schools (“Turning children into pawns in charter school debate” by R. Bruce Dold, Commentary, June 26). Arlington Heights has excellent public schools because our community members are actively involved in every aspect of our schools.
We pay very high property taxes because we have confidence in our schools. We do not want to have our tax money confiscated by Springfield and given to a group of disgruntled parents to start their own charter school.
I strongly object to my local tax money being used to fund a school that local citizens have no control over. If charter schools are such a good idea, why didn’t the Republicans in Springfield pass a tax increase to pay for these schools with state funds?
