Dorothy King, 81, who was dedicated to teaching and helping deprived children, died Friday of a heart attack. “She felt that God was good to her in terms of giving her the ability to be highly educated, and she wanted to give that back,” her son Michael E. said. Mrs. King studied to be a teacher at St. Mary’s College in South Bend, Ind., and Dominican College, graduating in 1936. Then, although her mother disapproved of her working, she taught high school English and history. After marrying Michael King, she shifted her energy to charities. Mrs. King served as a past president for Infant Welfare of Chicago in River Forest in the ’60s, worked at the Illinois Club for Women and for the Debutante Ball for Catholic Women. “She had six of her own, and she just loved children,” her son said. Survivors include another son, Dennis; three daughters, Mary Barrett, Dorothy Sherry and Patricia King; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services were Monday.
