More computers and an automated library check-in system will be added at Itasca schools this year after approval by the District 10 Board of Education Wednesday night of the $8.1 million budget.

The district plans to spend nearly $390,000 on computer hardware and software. Peacock Junior High School will get a new computer laboratory with 30 IBM-compatible computers.

The computers at Peacock will be CD-ROM compatible. The software will include programs on math, science, social studies and word processing.

The libraries at Peacock, Franzen Intermediate and Washington Elementary Schools will be automated, eliminating the need for card catalogs and manual check-in of books and other materials. Eventually, the system will be connected with the card catalog at the Itasca Public Library, said District 10 Supt. Glenn Acksel.
