Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

If the midsummer blues have you slumped on the couch watching too many reruns, then shake up your life by attending Brookfield Zoo’s Rhythm and Roots Festival. Each weekend through Aug. 30, the festival will highlight various cultures of the world through song, dance, or folk tales. This Friday through Sunday, the fun starts at noon and lasts until 4 p.m. Begin your tour of Asia by watching the Korean American Senior Center Dancers perform colorful ceremonial dances Friday. Then on Saturday, tap your feet to the tunes of Northern Illinois University’s Filipino Bamboo Music Band and Javanese Gamelan. Don’t be surprised if Tambores de Tricolor’s upbeat presentation has you dancing all the way home. Families can enjoy many other fun activities during the festival. Brookfield Zoo is at 1st Avenue and 31st Street, Brookfield. 708-485-0263, ext. 879.
